Stock Market Today, 13 October 2026: GIFT Nifty, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues, FII DII Data and Stocks to Watch
October 13, 2026 | by NammaStockMarket
NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:15 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST
Good morning. Let us get straight to the share market today picture before the bell. Yesterday was a rough Monday — the Nifty gave up 157 points and the Sensex shed 548 points, mostly because crude oil went back above $105 and FMCG and bank stocks got sold. This morning GIFT Nifty today is sitting just a shade higher, so the overnight signal is flat-to-mildly-positive for Nifty 50 and Sensex. But the bigger story is Asia: South Korea’s KOSPI has crashed more than 6% in a chip-led selloff, and Japan is down over 2.5%. FII DII data again showed the familiar pattern — foreigners selling, domestic funds buying. And one more thing to mark on your calendar: today is F&O expiry day for Nifty weekly options, which usually means extra swings in the last hour.
A note before we start: this is a data and news report. We do not make Nifty predictions, we do not give buy or sell calls, and we do not put out price targets. What you get below is what actually happened, and what the numbers say.
1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee
Wall Street ended Monday mixed. The Dow managed a gain, but the Nasdaq slipped as semiconductor stocks came under pressure — and that is the thread running through Asia this morning.
| Index | Close | Change (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones (US) | 51,850.55 | +0.38% |
| S&P 500 (US) | 7,807.24 | −0.06% |
| Nasdaq Composite (US) | 27,245.90 | −0.44% |
| FTSE 100 (UK) | — | +0.99% |
| DAX (Germany) | — | +0.76% |
| CAC 40 (France) | — | +0.38% |
Asian markets today are the weak spot. Chipmakers are being dumped across the region after US semiconductor weakness overnight, and higher crude is adding to the nerves.
| Asian Market | Move This Morning | Note |
|---|---|---|
| KOSPI (South Korea) | −6% and more | Fell below 6,000, lowest since 31 July; chip-heavy index hit hardest |
| Nikkei 225 (Japan) | −2.6% | Tech and chip names leading losses |
| ChiNext (China) | −3.0% | Growth and tech board under pressure |
| CSI 300 (China) | −1.3% | Broad-based weakness |
| Shanghai Composite | −1.2% | Tracking regional selloff |
| Hang Seng (Hong Kong) | −0.82% | Relatively steadier |
US stock futures were mixed as this report was written — S&P 500 futures down about 0.19%, Dow futures up about 0.16%. Traders there are waiting for home sales data and the start of the big American bank earnings season.
| Commodity / Currency | Level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Brent crude (Dec futures) | $105.60 / barrel | −0.48% |
| WTI crude | $93.91 / barrel | −0.51% |
| Indian rupee vs US dollar | ~₹95.80 | ~+1% vs Friday’s ~₹96.71 |
Crude is the one to keep an eye on. Brent touched a two-week high after reports of attacks on Saudi energy facilities, then eased slightly on talk of extra Russian diesel supply. For an oil-importing country like India, costlier crude means a bigger import bill and more pressure on the rupee — which is exactly why the next line matters.
On the currency side, the rupee bounced back about 1% (roughly 90-odd paise) on Monday after the RBI stepped in with a set of measures: a dedicated dollar window for oil marketing companies, higher costs on certain forex hedging trades, a ban on rebooking cancelled rupee-linked FX derivative contracts, a lower threshold (from $100 million down to $5 million) for unhedged FX derivative trades, and a new Foreign Exchange Risk Reserve requirement. In plain language: the central bank is making it costlier and harder to speculate against the rupee.
2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator
GIFT Nifty is the Nifty futures contract that trades at the GIFT City exchange in Gandhinagar. It used to be called SGX Nifty when it traded in Singapore. Because it trades for far longer hours than our cash market, it is the first rough hint of where Indian equities may open — think of it as a weather forecast, not a guarantee.
| GIFT Nifty (as of 8:08 AM IST) | Value |
|---|---|
| Current level | 22,425.00 |
| Change vs its own previous close | +3.50 (+0.02%) |
| Previous close | 22,421.50 |
| Day’s open | 22,402.50 |
| Day’s high | 22,434.00 |
| Day’s low | 22,394.50 |
| Gap vs Nifty 50 spot close (22,363.35) | ~+61.65 points |
So GIFT Nifty is trading roughly 60 points above where the Nifty cash market closed on Monday. On its own that points to a quiet, mildly positive start. But remember — GIFT Nifty keeps moving right up to 9:15 AM, and today’s weak Asian cues could change the picture quickly.
3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close
Monday was a classic “gave it all back” session. The Nifty opened strong at 22,593, climbed to 22,651, and then slid all the way to 22,304 before closing near the lows.
| Index | Close (12 Oct) | Change (pts) | Change (%) | 1-Week (%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,363.35 | −157.10 | −0.70% | −0.84% |
| BSE Sensex | 71,924.68 | −547.65 | −0.76% | — |
| Nifty Bank | 54,918.00 | −338.65 | −0.61% | −0.38% |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | 58,834.55 | — | +0.08% | −0.18% |
| Nifty Smallcap 100 | 19,425.80 | — | +1.42% | +1.23% |
Notice the split: large caps fell, but smallcaps actually had a good day. Market breadth on the NSE was almost perfectly balanced — 1,795 stocks up, 1,798 down and 113 unchanged out of 3,706 traded. Within the Nifty 50 itself, though, only 13 stocks rose and 36 fell.
| Sector Index | Change (%) |
|---|---|
| Nifty Media | +4.60% |
| Nifty Auto | +0.90% |
| Nifty Realty | +0.76% |
| Nifty Pharma | +0.45% |
| Nifty Private Bank | −0.37% |
| Nifty Oil & Gas | −0.44% |
| Nifty IT | −0.79% |
| Nifty PSU Bank | −1.18% |
| Nifty FMCG | −1.67% |
| Top Nifty 50 Gainers | Change (%) |
|---|---|
| Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories | +2.71% |
| Bajaj Auto | +2.62% |
| Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles | +1.63% |
| Bharat Electronics (BEL) | +1.56% |
| BSE Ltd | +1.31% |
| Top Nifty 50 Losers | Change (%) |
|---|---|
| Apollo Hospitals Enterprise | −3.15% |
| ITC | −3.05% |
| Tech Mahindra | −2.85% |
| Larsen & Toubro | −2.05% |
| Max Healthcare Institute | −2.02% |
One more data point for F&O watchers: the Nifty October futures closed at 22,399.90, a premium of 36.55 points over the cash market close of 22,363.35.
Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today
A quick explainer first, because these two words get thrown around a lot. Support is a price zone where buying has shown up before, so sellers have found it harder to push lower. Resistance is the opposite — a zone where selling has appeared. These are levels market analysts are watching and quoting, worked out from past price action and option data. They are for reference, not forecasts. Nobody knows where the index will actually go.
| Index | Levels Analysts Are Watching (Support) | Levels Analysts Are Watching (Resistance) |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,300–22,222 zone; 22,304 (Monday’s low); below that, 22,000 is talked about | 22,427–22,537 zone; then 22,580–22,600 |
| Nifty Bank | 54,717 / 54,708 (Monday’s low); then 54,594 | 55,101; then 55,200 / 55,349 |
| BSE Sensex | 71,930; 71,676 (Monday’s low); then 71,555 | 72,111; then 72,190 / 72,386 |
| Volatility Gauge | Close (12 Oct) | Change (%) |
|---|---|---|
| India VIX | 15.24 | +5.98% |
India VIX is the market’s “fear gauge” — it measures how much movement option traders are pricing in over the next 30 days. A jump of nearly 6% to 15.24 means option writers were demanding a bit more premium for the risk, which is normal on an expiry week with a wobbly global backdrop.
4. FII DII Data Today: Monday, 12 October 2026 (₹ Crore)
FII DII data today is the single most-watched flow number in the Indian market. FIIs (Foreign Institutional Investors, also called FPIs) are overseas funds. DIIs (Domestic Institutional Investors) are our own mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds — a lot of that money comes from your monthly SIPs. When FIIs sell and DIIs buy, the market usually drifts sideways rather than crashing. That is exactly what has been happening.
| Category | Net Buy / Sell on 12 Oct (₹ Cr) |
|---|---|
| FII / FPI (cash market) | −1,708.48 |
| DII (cash market) | +3,045.02 |
| Net institutional flow | +1,336.54 |
Gross buy and gross sell break-ups for Monday were not published on the sources checked for this report, so only net figures are shown above.
| Period | FII Net (₹ Cr) | DII Net (₹ Cr) |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 so far (cash) | −41,487 | +43,400 |
| Last 30 days (cash) | −98,525 | +1,29,203 |
Two things stand out. First, FIIs have now been net sellers in the cash market for roughly 12 sessions in a row — the heaviest single day recently was 8 October at about −₹12,944 crore. Second, DIIs have absorbed almost all of it. October’s FII cash outflow of about ₹41,500 crore has been met with roughly ₹43,400 crore of domestic buying. Separately, broader FPI numbers covering all segments put October’s pull-out at around ₹44,166 crore, with 2026’s total crossing ₹3 lakh crore.

6. Key Events Today: Nifty Weekly Expiry, Q2 Results and Two IPOs
| Event | Detail |
|---|---|
| Nifty weekly F&O expiry | Nifty weekly options expire today (Tuesday). Expect sharper intraday swings, especially after 2 PM. |
| Q2 FY27 results | Tata Elxsi, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Canara Bank, Hero Motors, Transformers and Rectifiers (TARIL), GTPL Hathway, Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers, PNB Gilts, State Trading Corporation of India and others. |
| IPO: HD Fire Protect | Opens for subscription today, seeking about ₹712.31 crore. |
| IPO: Vaibhav Vyapaar | Opens for bidding today, seeking about ₹42.10 crore. |
| US cues | Big American bank earnings season begins; US home sales data due. |
| Inflation backdrop | India’s September CPI, released on 12 October, came in at 5.54% versus 4.83% in August. Food inflation jumped to 7.74% from 5.97%. Rural inflation was 6.08% and urban 4.88%. |
That inflation print is worth understanding, because it shapes the mood. CPI, or Consumer Price Index inflation, is the rate at which retail prices are rising year on year. At 5.54% it is inside the RBI’s 2–6% tolerance band but well above the 4% mid-point target — and the jump was driven mostly by food. Bond yields have been rising alongside it, and higher yields tend to make equities less attractive at the margin. That is part of why FIIs have stayed sellers.
7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List
F&O stands for Futures and Options — contracts whose value is derived from an underlying stock or index. They trade in fixed lot sizes, so you buy a bundle, not a single share. Here is today’s expiry map:
| Expiry | When |
|---|---|
| Nifty weekly options | Today, Tuesday 13 October 2026 |
| Sensex weekly options | Thursday 15 October 2026 |
| Monthly F&O (October series) | Tuesday 27 October 2026 (last Tuesday of the month) |
Now the option chain data, as of Monday’s close. A few terms first, in plain language:
- Open Interest (OI) is the number of F&O contracts still open and not yet squared off. Rising OI at a strike price means more traders have positions parked there.
- Highest call OI marks the strike where the most call options are outstanding. Option writers sitting there would prefer the index to stay below it, which is why it is loosely described as a resistance zone.
- Highest put OI is the mirror image — most puts outstanding, loosely described as a support zone.
- PCR, or Put Call Ratio, divides total put OI by total call OI. Below 1 means more calls than puts are open; above 1 means the opposite. Traders read very low or very high readings as crowded positioning, not as a signal of direction.
- Max pain is the strike at which the largest rupee value of options would expire worthless. It is a positioning statistic, nothing more.
| Option Chain Metric (as of 12 Oct close) | Value |
|---|---|
| Put Call Ratio (PCR) | 0.60 |
| Max pain strike | 22,400 |
| Highest call OI strike | 22,600 |
| Highest put OI strike | 22,000 |
| Nifty spot reference | 22,363.35 |
A PCR of 0.60 says call writing has been noticeably heavier than put writing — in other words, option sellers have been positioned for the index to stay capped rather than run away higher. Max pain at 22,400 sits very close to Monday’s close, which is often the case going into an expiry session.
Finally, the F&O ban list today. When a stock’s open interest across the market crosses 95% of its MWPL (Market Wide Position Limit — the maximum F&O position the whole market is allowed in that stock), the exchange bans fresh F&O positions in it. You can still square off existing positions, but you cannot add new ones. Cash-market trading in the stock continues as normal.
| Stock | Current MWPL Used |
|---|---|
| Kaynes Technology India | 97.98% |
| Ambuja Cements | 92.91% |
Note that Ambuja Cements is below the 95% trigger on the latest reading but is on the list being tracked — the exchange publishes the final list each morning, so always check the official NSE circular before trading.

That is about 62 points above the Nifty 50’s cash close of 22,363.35, suggesting a flat-to-mildly-positive start. GIFT Nifty keeps trading until 9:15 AM, so the number changes.

For Nifty Bank the quoted levels are 54,717 and 54,594 below, 55,101 and 55,200 above. These are reference levels drawn from past price action and option data — they are not forecasts, and this report does not predict where any index will go.

Nifty weekly options expire today, Tuesday 13 October 2026. Sensex weekly options expire on Thursday 15 October. The October monthly F&O series expires on Tuesday 27 October 2026, the last Tuesday of the month.
Which stocks are in the F&O ban list today?
Kaynes Technology India (MWPL at 97.98%) and Ambuja Cements (92.91%) feature on the list being tracked for 13 October 2026. A ban means no fresh F&O positions — existing ones can be closed, and cash-market trading is unaffected. Always confirm against the official NSE circular released in the morning.
Why are Asian markets falling this morning?
The selloff is led by semiconductor stocks. South Korea’s KOSPI has fallen more than 6% to below 6,000 — its lowest since 31 July — with chipmakers taking the brunt, and Japan’s Nikkei is down about 2.6%. The triggers being cited are overnight weakness in US semiconductor shares, doubts about how long the AI-driven rally can last, US-China tech tensions, and crude oil near a two-week high pushing bond yields up. Since India’s index is far less chip-heavy than Korea’s or Taiwan’s, the read-across is not one-for-one.
