Stock Market Today 8 October 2026 – GIFT Nifty, Sensex, Nifty Pre-Market Report

NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:15 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST

Good morning, and here is your quick cup of share market today. GIFT Nifty today is sitting barely above Wednesday’s close, so the opening bell looks like a flat shuffle rather than a gap. The backdrop, though, is busy: US bond yields at multi-year highs, Brent back above $100, the rupee at a fresh low, and FII DII data showing foreigners selling for a ninth straight session while domestic funds keep absorbing it. Add Sensex F&O expiry today and TCS opening earnings season after the close, and Nifty 50 and Sensex have plenty to digest.

One note: many people search “Nifty prediction today”. We do not make predictions. We lay out the data so you can read the market yourself.

1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee

Wall Street slipped as US Treasury yields climbed. When bond yields rise, safe fixed-income returns look better and some money rotates out of shares.

Index (7 Oct close) Close Change % Change
Dow Jones Industrial Average 51,179.87 −341.41 −0.66%
S&P 500 7,801.77 −17.16 −0.22%
Nasdaq Composite 27,538.69 −61.20 −0.22%

The US 10-year Treasury yield settled near 5.29%–5.30%, a 52-week high, after touching about 5.35% intraday — its highest since 2002.

Asian Market (8 Oct, early trade) % Change
Nikkei 225 (Japan) −0.80%
KOSPI (South Korea) −0.62%
Hang Seng (Hong Kong) −0.04%
Shanghai Composite (China) −0.04%

India imports most of its oil, so crude and the rupee matter more here than almost any other global input.

Commodity / Currency Level Change
Brent crude (Dec futures) $101.85 +1.64%
WTI crude $89.64 +1.54%
Gold (international) $4,161.70 +0.51%
USD/INR (7 Oct close) ₹96.78 Near record low
India 10-year G-sec yield 7.24% Up ~5 bps

Brent reclaimed $100 on reports of attacks on oil tankers and continued tension around the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow sea lane carrying a large share of the world’s seaborne crude.

2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator

GIFT Nifty is the Nifty futures contract traded at GIFT City in Gujarat. It was called SGX Nifty when it traded in Singapore. It trades far longer hours than our cash market, so it is the earliest rough gauge of the open.

GIFT Nifty (8 Oct, 8:05 AM IST) Value
Last traded level 22,616.00
Previous close 22,558.00
Change +58.00 (+0.26%)
Open 22,579.50
Day high 22,621.00
Day low 22,535.50

Read this carefully. GIFT Nifty is up against its own previous close, but only about 13 points above Nifty’s spot close of 22,603.05 — and around 7:40 AM it was quoted near 22,592, slightly below spot. So the signal is an undecided, flat start. GIFT Nifty is an indicator, never a guarantee.

3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close

Wednesday belonged to the RBI. The Monetary Policy Committee raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% and shifted its stance to “calibrated tightening” — its first hike since February 2023. Benchmarks snapped a two-day winning run.

Index (7 Oct close) Close Change % Change
BSE Sensex 72,638.70 −429.11 −0.59%
Nifty 50 22,603.05 −173.05 −0.76%
Nifty Bank 55,055.55 −72.85 −0.13%
Nifty Midcap 100 n/a n/a −0.63%
Nifty Smallcap 100 n/a n/a +0.30%

Nifty opened at 22,690.45 and traded between 22,546.30 and 22,717.65. Week-to-date, measured against the 1 October closes, both benchmarks are still up: Nifty +181.10 points (+0.81%) and Sensex +729.00 points (+1.01%). For context, the previous week was the eighth straight weekly fall — Nifty −3.1%, Sensex −2.7% — and across those eight weeks Nifty lost about 8.7% and Sensex 8.4%.

Breadth was negative: 1,928 advances against 2,251 declines and 192 unchanged. Fourteen of 16 sectoral indices closed lower; only PSU Bank (+1%) and media gained, while Metal (−2.33%), Realty (−1.8%), Auto (−1.6%) and FMCG (−0.9%) lagged.

Nifty 50 Stock Move (7 Oct)
Kotak Mahindra Bank +1.88%
BSE Ltd +1.54%
Bharti Airtel +1.29%
ICICI Bank +1.09%
Coal India +0.69%
Titan Company −3.80%
Adani Enterprises −3.75%
Hindalco Industries −3.15%
JSW Steel −2.35%
Bharat Electronics −2.35%

Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today

India VIX is the “fear gauge” — how much volatility option traders are pricing in over the next 30 days. Around 13.9 is on the calmer side, though that can change fast.

4. FII DII Data Today: Wednesday, 7 October 2026 (₹ Crore)

FII means Foreign Institutional Investor (overseas funds); DII means Domestic Institutional Investor (our mutual funds, insurers, pension funds). These are provisional cash-market figures.

Investor Category (7 Oct) Gross Buy Gross Sell Net
FII / FPI 12,577.96 18,699.33 −6,121.37
DII 18,707.03 14,110.46 +4,596.57
Date FII Net DII Net
7 Oct 2026 −6,121.37 +4,596.57
6 Oct 2026 −2,961.30 +5,088.92
5 Oct 2026 −4,699.14 +5,181.62
Week so far (5–7 Oct) −13,781.81 +14,867.11

October month-to-date stands near −₹23,266 crore for FIIs and +₹24,909 crore for DIIs. Foreign investors have sold for nine sessions running, about −₹57,469 crore cumulatively, and 2026 foreign portfolio outflows are approaching $30 billion — on course for a record year of foreign selling. Domestic money, much of it steady SIP flows into mutual funds, has been the cushion under this market.

5. Stocks in News Today: Stocks to Watch on 8 October 2026

6. Key Events Today: TCS Q2 Results, GST Council Meeting and Sensex Expiry

  • TCS Q2 FY27 results after market hours formally open earnings season; its commentary on client spending is read as an IT-sector health check.
  • GST Council meeting is scheduled to take up compliance reforms.
  • Sensex weekly F&O expiry falls today, which often lifts volumes and causes choppiness late in the session.
  • IPO listings: Nityas Gems & Jewellery and Vishal Nirmiti are slated to debut.
  • Policy follow-through from Wednesday’s repo hike to 5.50% and the “calibrated tightening” stance.
  • Reports suggest the UPI merchant fee may be deferred to 1 January.
  • Rupee and crude stay on the watchlist — ₹96.78 near a record low, Brent above $100.

7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List

F&O means Futures and Options — contracts whose value derives from an underlying share or index. Each covers a fixed lot size, not a single share, and each has an expiry date.

Expiry Type Day Next Date
Nifty weekly expiry Tuesday 13 October 2026
Sensex weekly expiry Thursday 8 October 2026 (today)
Monthly F&O expiry Last Tuesday of the month 27 October 2026

Tuesday, 20 October is Dussehra, an NSE trading holiday, so do check the exchange circular for that week’s expiry arrangement.

F&O Metric (Nifty, 7 Oct close) Value
Put-Call Ratio (PCR) 0.82
Change-in-OI PCR 0.42
Max pain level 22,650
Highest call OI strike 23,000
Highest put OI strike 22,000
Nifty spot reference 22,603.05

Open Interest (OI) is the number of F&O contracts still outstanding — not today’s volume, but positions left open. Heavy OI at a strike means a lot of money is parked there. PCR compares put open interest with call open interest; 0.82 means fewer puts than calls are open. Max pain is the strike where the largest number of options would expire worthless, so option writers lose least — at 22,650 it sits just above Wednesday’s close. Both are positioning observations, not targets.

The F&O ban list is a safety mechanism. Each F&O stock has an MWPL (Market Wide Position Limit) capping total open interest across the market. Once OI crosses 95% of MWPL, the stock enters a “ban period”: no fresh F&O positions, only reducing or squaring off. Cash-market trading continues as normal.

F&O Ban List Today (8 Oct) Status
LIC Housing Finance In ban period
Ambuja Cements In ban period
Bandhan Bank In ban period
Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Listed as a possible exit

The list changes daily, so confirm against the NSE circular before placing an F&O order.
