NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:10 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST
Good morning! Grab your chai, and let’s look at the share market today. Wall Street had its best day since early August, crude oil cooled off, and GIFT Nifty today is trading above Nifty’s Monday close. Below you’ll find where the Nifty 50 and Sensex ended, the latest FII DII data, the stocks making news, and why today matters for traders — it’s the Nifty weekly F&O expiry, and NSE’s own mega IPO sees its share allotment.
A quick note first: people often search for a “Nifty prediction today”. We don’t make predictions. We just lay out the data, so you can make sense of it yourself.
Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee
US markets (Monday, 21 Sep close). Tech stocks led a strong rally. Oil prices fell on signs that Saudi Arabia is restoring pipeline capacity and on hopes of US-Iran talks at the UN General Assembly. The US 10-year bond yield slipped to 4.951% from 5.00%.

| Nasdaq Composite | 27,122.09 | +2.26% |
Asian markets (Tuesday morning). Most of Asia followed Wall Street higher. Japan is shut today for a public holiday.

Crude oil, gold and rupee. For India, which imports most of its oil, cheaper crude is usually welcome news. It also helped the rupee gain for a third straight day.

GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator
GIFT Nifty is a Nifty futures contract that trades at NSE International Exchange in GIFT City, Gujarat. It used to trade in Singapore, which is why many people still call it SGX Nifty. It trades almost 21 hours a day, so it reflects overnight global moves before NSE opens.

|---|---|
| Last traded | 23,493.50 |
| Change vs its own previous close (23,535.50) | −42.00 (−0.18%) |
| Gap vs Nifty 50 spot close (23,414.30) | +79.20 |
| Early range | 23,490.50 – 23,526.00 |
In simple words: GIFT Nifty is trading about 79 points above where Nifty closed on Monday. That’s a hint of a firm start, but it is not a guarantee. The opening can change once the pre-open session (9:00–9:08 AM) begins.
Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close
Monday was the fourth straight day of gains for Nifty. Sensex rose much more than Nifty in percentage terms, helped by heavyweights like Reliance and HCL Tech. Midcaps and smallcaps slipped, and market breadth was nearly flat (2,224 advances vs 2,232 declines on BSE).

F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List
When is Nifty expiry this week? Today, Tuesday 22 September (weekly). Sensex weekly options expire on Thursday, 24 September. The September monthly F&O contracts expire next Tuesday, 29 September. Nifty September futures closed at 23,450, a premium of 35.7 points over spot.
Some quick jargon help:
- Open interest (OI) is the number of option or futures contracts still open. A strike with very high call OI often acts like a ceiling, and high put OI like a floor, because option sellers defend those levels.
- PCR (put-call ratio) compares put OI with call OI. Above 1 means more puts than calls are open.
- Max pain is the strike where option buyers, as a group, lose the most money at expiry.
| Nifty options data (22 Sep expiry, as of 21 Sep close) | Value |
|---|---|
| Highest call OI strike | 23,500 |
| Highest put OI strike | 23,400 |
| Put-call ratio (PCR) | 1.28 |
| Max pain | 23,400 |
| Nifty lot size | 65 |
F&O ban list today: SAIL (MWPL at 91.76% on 21 Sep). MWPL means “market-wide position limit” — the maximum open positions allowed in a stock’s F&O contracts. When positions cross 95% of it, the stock enters the ban list, and traders can only reduce existing positions, not take new ones. It comes out only after positions fall below 80%. Stocks close to the limit included LIC Housing Finance, IREDA, LIC and Kaynes Technology. Please check the final NSE list before trading, as it updates daily.
