Stock Market Today, 15 October 2026: GIFT Nifty, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues, FII DII Data and Stocks to Watch
October 15, 2026 | by NammaStockMarket
NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:15 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST
Good morning, and welcome to your daily cup of chai with the markets. Here is everything you need to know about the share market today before the opening bell rings.
Yesterday was a quiet, slightly heavy day — the Nifty slipped under 22,650 and the Sensex gave up about 250 points. Overnight, though, the mood overseas turned sour. US inflation came in hotter than expected, Wall Street’s tech-heavy indices fell, and Asian chip stocks are being sold off hard this morning. GIFT Nifty today is hovering just below yesterday’s Nifty close, which usually points to a flat-to-soft start.
Below we break down the Nifty 50 and Sensex numbers, the latest FII DII data, the stocks in the news, and what the F&O expiry calendar looks like this week. No tips, no targets — just the data, explained simply.
1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee
Indian markets rarely open in a vacuum. What happened on Wall Street last night and what is happening in Asia right now usually sets the tone for the first hour here. These are the global market cues today.
US Markets (Previous Close, 14 October)
American indices closed lower after September inflation data came in above expectations, which pushed traders to price in a tougher stance from the US Federal Reserve. Technology shares took the hardest hit.
| Index | Close | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones Industrial Average | 51,621.48 | −0.09% |
| S&P 500 | 7,718.94 | −1.11% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 26,692.87 | −1.88% |
US index futures were also soft early Thursday — Dow futures down 0.03% and S&P 500 futures down 0.39%.
Asian Markets (Early Trade, 15 October)
Asia is where the real damage is this morning. South Korea’s Kospi is the worst hit as semiconductor stocks are dumped, and Japan’s Nikkei is following.
| Market | Early Move |
|---|---|
| Kospi (South Korea) | −7% and lower |
| Nikkei 225 (Japan) | −4% to −5% |
| Shanghai Composite (China) | −0.88% |
| Hang Seng (Hong Kong) | −0.13% |
Asian figures are early-trade snapshots taken between 7:00 and 8:10 AM IST and keep moving through the session.
Crude Oil and Commodities
Crude matters a lot for India because we import most of our oil. High crude pushes up our import bill, pressures the rupee, and squeezes companies that use oil as a raw material — paint makers, tyre makers, airlines.
| Commodity | Level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Brent Crude (Dec futures) | $104.21 | −1.73% |
| WTI Crude | $94.97 | −1.03% |
| Gold Futures | — | +1.24% |
| Silver Futures | — | +0.47% |
Brent is cooling off a little this morning, but at over $100 a barrel it remains well above the comfort zone for an oil-importing economy like ours.
Rupee
| Currency | Level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Indian Rupee vs US Dollar | ₹95.14 | +0.15% |
This was the rupee’s level in early Thursday trade, around 7:00 AM IST, not a closing rate.
2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator
If you are new to this: GIFT Nifty is the Nifty futures contract that trades at GIFT City in Gujarat. It used to be called SGX Nifty when it traded in Singapore. Because it trades for close to 21 hours a day, it keeps ticking while the NSE is shut — so at 8 in the morning it is the first clue traders have about how the Nifty might open.
| Indicator | Level | Note |
|---|---|---|
| GIFT Nifty (approx. 8:10 AM IST) | 22,603.50 | Down about 46 points |
| GIFT Nifty (approx. 8:04 AM IST, separate quote) | 22,614.00 | — |
| Nifty 50 previous close | 22,622.70 | Reference point |
| Gap vs Nifty 50 close | About 10–20 points below | Signals a flat-to-negative start |
Different platforms quote GIFT Nifty against different reference points (spot Nifty versus the futures’ own previous close), which is why you will see slightly different “change” figures this morning. The common thread: GIFT Nifty is sitting a shade below the Nifty’s Wednesday close.
A word of caution, since people search for “Nifty prediction today” every single morning — we do not make predictions here. GIFT Nifty tells you where sentiment is at 8 AM. It is not a forecast of where the index closes at 3:30 PM, and plenty of sessions have opened down and finished up.
3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close
Wednesday was a day of mild profit-booking. IT stocks held up well, but financials and a few heavyweights dragged. Here is how Nifty 50 live levels and BSE Sensex today figures finished the previous session.
| Index | Close (14 Oct) | Change | % Change | Week-to-Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,622.70 | −99.25 | −0.44% | +0.45% |
| BSE Sensex | 72,781.89 | −251.89 | −0.34% | — |
| Nifty Bank | 55,316.00 | −165.05 | −0.30% | — |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | — | — | −0.08% | — |
| Nifty Smallcap 100 | — | — | −0.32% | — |
| Nifty IT | — | — | +1.14% | — |
Week-to-date for the Nifty 50 is measured against its 9 October close of 22,520.45. The Nifty’s intraday range on Wednesday was 22,558.95 to 22,757.95; the Sensex ranged between 72,578.75 and 73,195.26.

Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today
These are the Nifty support resistance zones that market analysts said they were tracking into Thursday’s session. Think of support as a level where buying has tended to show up, and resistance as a level where selling has tended to appear. These are levels for reference, not forecasts — markets routinely break through both.
| Index / Measure | Support Levels | Resistance Levels |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 (broad view) | 22,600 / 22,500 | 22,700 / 22,800 |
| Nifty 50 (technical view) | 22,611 / 22,559 / 22,222 | 22,716–22,851 / 23,077 |
| BSE Sensex | 72,600 / 72,500 | 72,800 / 73,000 |
| Nifty Bank | 55,200 / 55,000 | 55,500 / 56,000 |
| Volatility Gauge | Level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| India VIX | 14.62 | +3.54% |
India VIX is the market’s “fear gauge” — it measures how much movement traders expect in the Nifty over the next 30 days. A reading in the mid-teens is moderate. It ticked up on Wednesday, which simply means traders are bracing for slightly bigger swings.
4. FII DII Data Today: Wednesday, 14 October 2026 (₹ Crore)
FII DII data today is one of the most watched numbers in the Indian market. FIIs are Foreign Institutional Investors — overseas funds investing here. DIIs are Domestic Institutional Investors — our own mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds, which is essentially where your SIP money goes.
| Category | Net Figure (14 Oct) | Position |
|---|---|---|
| FII / FPI | −₹1,857.44 crore | Net sellers |
| DII | +₹2,670.44 crore | Net buyers |
These are provisional cash-market figures for the 14 October session as reported by market data providers. Gross buy and gross sell splits were not available at the time of writing.
The Bigger Picture: Weekly and Monthly Flows
| Period | FII Net | DII Net |
|---|---|---|
| Week ended 9 October 2026 | −₹30,294 crore | +₹30,313 crore |
| October 2026 so far | −₹39,779 crore | +₹40,355 crore |
This is the story of 2026’s autumn in one table. Foreign money has been walking out for eight straight weeks, and domestic money has been walking in at almost exactly the same pace. That near-perfect offset is why the index has drifted sideways rather than fallen off a cliff — and it is a useful reminder of how much the Indian market now depends on domestic savings.

6. Key Events Today: Q2 Earnings Season, IPO Rush and the Inflation Backdrop
Earnings. The IT sector takes centre stage with Wipro and Tech Mahindra reporting. After Infosys and TCS held up the index on Wednesday, the commentary on IT spending and deal pipelines will be closely read. Nestle India, HDFC Life and HDFC AMC round out a heavy day.
The primary market. It is a busy stretch for IPOs. Tonbo Imaging India, Zetwerk, Bonfiglioli Transmissions, Sahajanand Medical Technologies and Shellz India open for subscription today. Fusion CX and Ravita Engineering Services are on day two, and Vaibhav Vyapaar is on its final day of bidding. Separately, the Jio Platforms IPO has been announced with a price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 and a fresh issue of up to ₹30,213 crore, with subscription scheduled for 21 to 23 October.
Inflation. This is the backdrop that is bothering everyone. India’s September CPI inflation came in at 5.54% with food inflation at 7.74%, and WPI inflation accelerated to 11.39% in September from 9.92% in August. Overnight, US inflation also surprised on the upside. When inflation runs hot in both places at once, bond yields rise and equity markets usually get nervous.
On the brighter side. The IMF recently raised its India FY27 GDP growth forecast to 7%.
One for your wallet. From today, a merchant discount rate of 0.4% applies on specified UPI merchant transactions above ₹2,000. This does not affect normal person-to-person UPI transfers.
7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List
Today is Thursday, which is the weekly expiry day for Sensex options. Nifty weekly options expire on Tuesdays. Expiry days often bring extra volatility in the last hour as traders square off positions.
| Expiry | Day | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Sensex weekly options | Thursday | Expires today, 15 October |
| Nifty weekly options | Tuesday | Next Tuesday, 20 October, is a Dussehra trading holiday — check the NSE circular for the revised date |
| Monthly F&O expiry | Last Tuesday of the month | 27 October 2026 |
Nifty Option Chain Snapshot
| Measure | Value | What It Means in Plain English |
|---|---|---|
| Put-Call Ratio (PCR) | 0.86 | Compares put option open interest to call option open interest. Below 1 means more call writing than put writing — generally read as a cautious tone. |
| Max Pain | 22,600 | The strike price at which the largest number of option buyers would lose money at expiry. Option writers’ positions are heaviest around here. |
| Highest Call OI strike | 23,000 | The strike with the most call contracts outstanding. Heavy call writing here is commonly treated as a ceiling zone. |
| Highest Put OI strike | 22,000 | The strike with the most put contracts outstanding, commonly treated as a floor zone. |
Option chain data as of the 14 October close. Open interest changes through the day and these are observations, not forecasts.
F&O Ban List Today
A stock enters the F&O ban list today when its open interest crosses 95% of its market-wide position limit (MWPL) — basically, when too much of the available derivatives capacity in that stock is already used up. While a stock is in the ban, you cannot open fresh futures or options positions in it; you can only reduce or close existing ones. It comes out of the ban once MWPL usage falls below 80%. Being in the ban says nothing about whether a company is good or bad — it is purely a position-limit mechanism.
| Stock | MWPL Usage |
|---|---|
| Kaynes Technology India | 95.70% |
| Ambuja Cements | 92.71% |
These were the names flagged for the 14 October session. The NSE publishes the final ban list for each day before the market opens, so please check the official NSE securities-in-ban-period list for today’s confirmed names.

Which stocks are in the F&O ban list today?

Why are Asian markets falling today?
Asian markets are under pressure because of a sharp sell-off in semiconductor and technology shares. South Korea’s Kospi is down more than 7% and Japan’s Nikkei is down around 4% to 5% in early trade. The trigger was higher-than-expected US inflation data, which revived expectations of a tighter stance from the US Federal Reserve and knocked technology stocks on Wall Street overnight.
Is the stock market open today, 15 October 2026?
Yes. Thursday, 15 October 2026 is a normal trading day. The NSE and BSE are open from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST, with a pre-open session from 9:00 to 9:15 AM. The next NSE trading holiday is Tuesday, 20 October 2026 for Dussehra.
