Stock Market Today 27 October 2026 – GIFT Nifty, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues

NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:15 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST

Good morning, and welcome to your daily chai-break look at the share market today. Monday finally gave the bulls something to smile about — the market snapped a four-day losing run. This morning, GIFT Nifty today is barely moving, Japan and Korea are flying on an AI-driven rally, and crude oil is still sitting uncomfortably high near $116 a barrel.

Here is everything on the plate before the bell: where Nifty 50 and Sensex closed, the latest FII DII data, the levels analysts are keeping an eye on, and the big one — today is F&O expiry day for Nifty’s October monthly contracts, which usually means a bumpy, choppy session. People search for “Nifty prediction today” every single morning, so let us be clear up front: we do not make predictions here. We simply put the data in front of you, explain what it means, and let you make up your own mind.

Let us get into it.

1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee

Wall Street started the week on a cheerful note. Tech did the heavy lifting after Anthropic filed for its IPO, which rekindled appetite for AI and semiconductor stocks across the world.

US markets (Monday, 26 October 2026 close)

Index Close Change % Change
Dow Jones Industrial Average 52,361.52 +146.36 +0.28%
S&P 500 7,676.80 +53.12 +0.70%
Nasdaq Composite 26,169.38 +214.04 +0.82%

That AI cheer has carried straight into Asia this morning. Korea’s Kospi is the standout — SK Hynix and other chip names are surging — and Japan’s Nikkei is pushing towards fresh highs.

Asian markets (early trade, around 8:15 AM IST today)

Index Level % Change
Nikkei 225 (Japan) ~63,455 +2.03%
Kospi (South Korea) ~5,734 +4.83%
Hang Seng (Hong Kong) ~23,249 +0.16%
Shanghai Composite (China) ~3,706 +0.22%
S&P/ASX 200 (Australia) — −0.20%

Asian markets are open while you read this, so these numbers keep moving.

Commodities, currency and bond yields

Item Latest Note
Brent crude ~$116.00 / barrel Eased from a six-month high near $117
WTI crude (December futures) ~$101.40 / barrel Softer on Monday
Gold ~$4,000 / ounce Up about 0.5% on Monday
US 10-year Treasury yield ~5.00% Little changed
Indian rupee (USD/INR) 95.19 25 paise weaker vs 94.94

Two things here matter for us in India. First, crude. India imports most of its oil, so expensive crude pushes up our import bill, pressures the rupee and squeezes companies that use oil as a raw material — paints, tyres, aviation, logistics. Second, the rupee at 95.19 is on the weaker side, which quietly raises the cost of everything we import.

Jargon break: a “basis point” is one-hundredth of a percentage point. So 25 basis points = 0.25%. You will hear this a lot today because of the Fed.

2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator

GIFT Nifty is a Nifty futures contract that trades at the GIFT City international exchange in Gujarat for nearly 21 hours a day. It used to be called SGX Nifty when it traded in Singapore. Because it keeps ticking long after NSE shuts, it is the first rough hint of how our market might open.

Item Value
GIFT Nifty 22,667.00
Change +22.50
% Change +0.10%
Previous close 22,644.50
Day’s high 22,688.50
Day’s low 22,662.50
Nifty 50 spot close (26 Oct) 22,753.20

Data as of about 8:09 AM IST.

So GIFT Nifty is up slightly from its own previous close, but it is sitting roughly 86 points below where Nifty spot finished on Monday. In plain words: the overnight signal is a flat-to-slightly-soft start, even though Asia is strong. Do remember GIFT Nifty is an indicator, not a promise — the 9:15 AM opening is decided by actual buying and selling on NSE and BSE.

3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close

Monday was a proper relief rally. BSE Sensex today begins from 73,606.75 after Monday’s 483-point jump, and Nifty reclaimed the 22,750 mark. Metal, pharma and energy stocks led; the broader market did even better than the headline indices.

Index Close (26 Oct) Change % Change Last Week (19–23 Oct)
Nifty 50 22,753.20 +153.20 +0.68% −2.36%
BSE Sensex 73,606.75 +482.92 +0.66% −2.15%
Nifty Bank 54,366.70 +79.35 +0.15% −2.79%
Nifty Midcap 100 — — +1.19% —
Nifty Smallcap 100 — — +1.38% —
India VIX 17.13 — +1.60% —

Market breadth was healthy: 2,262 stocks advanced, 1,895 declined and 186 were unchanged. Ten of eleven major sectors closed green, with Nifty Metal up about 2.21% and Nifty Pharma up about 1.76%. Nifty Media was the lone sector in the red.

Nifty 50 top gainers and losers (26 October)

Stock Close (₹) % Change
Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories 1,310.90 +6.62%
JSW Steel 1,260.00 +6.28%
BSE Ltd 3,359.00 +3.97%
Shriram Finance 825.00 −4.62%
Tata Consumer Products 936.50 −2.84%
Bajaj Finance 918.70 −1.10%

Adani Ports, Eternal and Max Healthcare were also among the gainers; HDFC Life and HDFC Bank were among the laggards.

Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today

Support is a price zone where buying has previously shown up; resistance is a zone where selling has previously shown up. These are levels market analysts say they are watching — for reference, not forecasts. Nobody knows where the index will actually go, and on an expiry day levels get tested and broken more often than usual.

Category Levels Being Watched
Nifty 50 — immediate support 22,500 – 22,350
Nifty 50 — major support 22,200 – 22,000
Nifty 50 — immediate resistance 22,800 – 23,000
Nifty 50 — major resistance 23,300 – 23,500
Nifty Bank — immediate support 54,000 – 53,900
Nifty Bank — major support 53,700 – 53,500
Nifty Bank — immediate resistance 54,700 – 55,000
Nifty Bank — major resistance 55,500 – 55,900
India VIX 17.13

India VIX at 17.13 is the “fear gauge” — it measures how much movement option traders expect over the next 30 days. It touched 18 intraday on Monday before easing. Mid-teens is normal-ish; a sharp jump usually means nervousness.

4. FII DII Data Today: Monday, 26 October 2026 (₹ Crore)

FIIs are Foreign Institutional Investors — overseas funds. DIIs are Domestic Institutional Investors — our own mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds. The tug-of-war between them has been the single biggest story of October.

Category Gross Buy Gross Sell Net
FII (cash market) 9,325 10,787 −1,462
DII (cash market) — — +2,610
Combined net — — +1,147

DII gross buy and sell figures for 26 October were not published at the time of writing. Figures are provisional.

The bigger picture

Period FII Net DII Net
Week of 19–23 October −2,697 +10,942
October 2026 month-to-date −52,929 +61,720

Look at that October number. Foreign funds have pulled out close to ₹53,000 crore this month, and domestic institutions have absorbed almost ₹62,000 crore — largely the steady SIP money flowing in from retail investors every month. That domestic cushion is the main reason the market has fallen rather than collapsed.

6. Key Events Today: Nifty Monthly Expiry and the Start of the Fed Meeting

Three things to keep on your radar:

One — Nifty October monthly F&O expiry. Today is the last Tuesday of October, which makes it the monthly expiry day for Nifty futures and options, and the weekly expiry as well. Expiry sessions are usually choppy because traders are closing or rolling over positions rather than taking fresh views. Sharp, short-lived swings in the last hour are common.

Two — the US Fed’s two-day meeting begins today, with the interest rate decision due tomorrow, 28 October. Global markets tend to tread carefully before a Fed announcement, because US rates influence where global money flows — including FII money into and out of India.

Three — a heavy earnings day. L&T, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, SBI Life, Bajaj Auto and Tata Capital all report Q2 FY27 numbers. Globally, Alphabet, Microsoft and SK Hynix report this week.

And running quietly behind all of it: Brent crude near $116 and the rupee at 95.19.

7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List

F&O means Futures and Options — contracts whose value is derived from an underlying stock or index. Here is the day’s derivatives picture, with the jargon explained as we go.

Open Interest (OI) is the total number of F&O contracts that are currently open and not yet settled. Rising OI means new money is entering a strike price; falling OI means positions are being closed.

Put-Call Ratio (PCR) divides the total open interest in put options by that in call options. Traders loosely read a PCR above 1 as more puts open than calls, and below 1 as the reverse. It is a sentiment reading, nothing more.

Max pain is the strike price at which the largest number of option contracts would expire worthless — in other words, where option writers would lose the least. It is an arithmetic output of today’s OI data, not a target and not a forecast.

Item Value
Put-Call Ratio (PCR) 1.13
Max pain strike 22,750
Highest call open interest strike 23,000
Highest put open interest strike 22,500
Nifty monthly and weekly expiry Today, Tuesday 27 October
Sensex weekly expiry Thursday, 29 October

Option chain data as of 4:10 PM IST on 26 October.

The highest call OI at 23,000 and highest put OI at 22,500 simply tell you where option activity is currently clustered. Treat them as a map of where traders have placed their bets, not as a prediction of where the index lands.

F&O ban list

A stock enters the F&O ban when the total open interest in its derivatives crosses 95% of its MWPL — Market Wide Position Limit, the maximum number of open contracts NSE allows in that stock. While banned, you can only reduce existing positions, not open new ones. The ban lifts once open interest falls back below 80% of MWPL.

Stock OI as % of MWPL
Steel Authority of India (SAIL) 88.5%
Ambuja Cements 85.8%
Kaynes Technology India 80.4%

This is the list NSE published for the 26 October trade date — three securities. The updated list for today is released by NSE before the market opens and was not yet confirmed at the time of writing, so do check the NSE website. All three were close to the 80% exit threshold.

What is the FII DII data for 26 October 2026?

FIIs were net sellers of ₹1,462 crore in the cash market (gross buy ₹9,325 crore, gross sell ₹10,787 crore). DIIs were net buyers of ₹2,610 crore. For October so far, FIIs have net sold ₹52,929 crore while DIIs have net bought ₹61,720 crore. Figures are provisional.

When is Nifty expiry this week?

Nifty’s weekly expiry falls on Tuesday, and because 27 October is the last Tuesday of the month, today is also the October monthly F&O expiry for Nifty futures and options. Sensex weekly expiry is on Thursday, 29 October.

Which stocks are in the F&O ban list today?

For the 26 October trade date, NSE listed three securities in the ban period: SAIL, Ambuja Cements and Kaynes Technology India. The list for 27 October is published by NSE before the opening bell, so check the exchange website for the confirmed list.

Why is crude oil important for the Indian market right now?

Brent crude is hovering near $116 a barrel after touching a six-month high of about $117 last week. India imports the bulk of its crude, so a higher oil price widens the import bill, puts pressure on the rupee — which closed at 95.19 per dollar, 25 paise weaker — and raises input costs for oil-linked industries. It also feeds into inflation, which matters for RBI’s thinking.

Data sources: NSE and BSE exchange data, GIFT Nifty and NSE option chain snapshots, provisional FII/DII cash market figures, brokerage and financial news reports. Index and currency levels are as published by these sources at the times noted; Asian market figures are early-trade readings and will have changed by the opening bell. Provisional institutional flow data is revised by the exchanges later in the day.
