Stock Market Today, 25 September 2026: GIFT Nifty, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues, FII DII Data and Stocks in Focus
September 25, 2026 | by NammaStockMarket
NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:30 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST
Good morning. Let us get you ready for share market today over a quick cup of chai. Thursday was a rough session — the Nifty 50 and Sensex both fell more than 1.5%, banks and financials took the biggest hit, and the volatility index jumped almost 23%. This morning GIFT Nifty today is sitting almost exactly where the Nifty closed, so the start looks quiet rather than dramatic. Below you will find global market cues today, the FII DII data, stocks in the news, the levels analysts are talking about, and where we stand on F&O expiry for this week.
One thing first: we do not do “Nifty prediction today” here. No buy calls, no sell calls, no targets. Just the numbers and what they mean, so you can decide for yourself.
1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee
Wall Street ended Thursday almost flat after a choppy session. The big story was not stocks but bonds — the US 10-year Treasury yield touched 5.19%, its highest since 2007, and the 30-year went to 5.48%. When American government bonds pay that much, some global money prefers parking there instead of in emerging market shares like ours. That is one reason FIIs have been selling.
| Index | Close | Change | % Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones | 51,349.98 | −161.61 | −0.31% |
| S&P 500 | 7,704.13 | −1.90 | −0.02% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 26,939.37 | +3.34 | +0.01% |
Asia is thin this morning because two big markets are shut for the Mid-Autumn festival and Chuseok.
| Market | Status Today |
|---|---|
| Japan (Nikkei 225) | Up about 1.3% in early trade |
| Hong Kong (Hang Seng) | Down about 1.6% |
| China (Shanghai Composite) | Closed for holiday |
| South Korea (Kospi) | Closed for holiday |
| Item | Level | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Brent crude | ~$105.7 | Easing on reports of a possible US–Iran de-escalation |
| WTI crude | $93.12 | Thursday settlement, up 1.04% |
| Rupee vs US dollar | ₹95.96 | Closed 23 paise weaker on 24 Sep (previous ₹95.73) |
| US 10-year yield | 5.19% | Highest since 2007 |
Why crude matters to us: India imports most of its oil, so costlier crude means a bigger import bill, a weaker rupee and more pressure on inflation. Any sign of the price cooling off is usually taken well here.
2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator
GIFT Nifty is the Nifty futures contract that trades at GIFT City in Gujarat for nearly 21 hours a day. It used to be called SGX Nifty when it traded in Singapore. Because it keeps running through the night, traders use it as the first hint of how our market may open.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| GIFT Nifty (approx. 7:55 AM IST) | 23,069.00 |
| Change | −36.50 (−0.16%) |
| Previous close | 23,105.50 |
| Nifty 50 close (24 Sep) | 23,063.10 |
| Gap vs Nifty close | About +6 points |
In simple words: GIFT Nifty is sitting within a few points of where the Nifty finished on Thursday. That points to a flat, wait-and-watch start rather than a big gap either way. Earlier in the morning it had been a little higher, near the 23,140 mark, so it is moving about in a narrow band.
3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close
Thursday, 24 September, was a broad sell-off. Every Sensex constituent closed lower. Investor wealth on BSE fell by roughly ₹3.54 lakh crore in one session.
| Index | Close (24 Sep) | Change | % Change | Week So Far |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 23,063.10 | −383.70 | −1.64% | −1.21% |
| BSE Sensex | 73,580.54 | −1,247.71 | −1.67% | −0.96% |
| Nifty Bank | 55,438.50 | −1,110.40 | −1.96% | — |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | — | — | −2.25% | — |
| Nifty Smallcap 100 | — | — | −1.54% | — |
“Week so far” compares Thursday’s close with the previous Friday’s close (Nifty 23,346.40, Sensex 74,294.96). Midcaps fell more than the Nifty, which tells you the selling was not limited to a handful of heavyweight names.
| Stock | Move (24 Sep) |
|---|---|
| Cipla | +1.16% |
| NTPC | +0.18% |
| Axis Bank | −4.56% |
| Bajaj Finance | −5.87% |
| HDFC Life | −6.16% |
Sector-wise, Financial Services was the weakest at about −2.4%, followed by Metals (−1.96%) and Auto (−1.57%). Pharma (−0.45%) and IT (−0.44%) held up best.
Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today
Support is a zone where buying has previously shown up; resistance is a zone where selling has previously shown up. These are levels analysts are watching and talking about — for reference, not forecasts. Nobody knows what the market will actually do.
| Index / Item | Support Being Watched | Resistance Being Watched |
|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 23,000 / 22,930 | 23,200 / 23,500 |
| Nifty Bank | 55,200 | 55,700 |
| Item | Value | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| India VIX | 12.73 | Jumped 22.9% on 24 Sep |
India VIX is the “fear gauge” — it estimates how much swing the market expects over the next 30 days. A jump of nearly 23% in a single day means traders suddenly started paying up for protection. Even so, at under 13 the absolute level is still on the lower side historically.
4. FII DII Data Today: Thursday, 24 September 2026 (₹ Crore)
FIIs are foreign institutional investors; DIIs are domestic ones — our mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds. On Thursday the familiar pattern repeated: foreigners sold, domestic funds absorbed most of it.
| Category | Gross Buy | Gross Sell | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| FII (cash) | 13,111.20 | 18,138.60 | −5,027.40 |
| DII (cash) | 18,196.90 | 13,895.70 | +4,301.20 |
Adding up the four sessions of this week so far (21–24 September):
| Category | Gross Buy | Gross Sell | Net (21–24 Sep) |
|---|---|---|---|
| FII (cash) | 47,174.60 | 54,970.80 | −7,796.20 |
| DII (cash) | 61,300.10 | 47,740.10 | +13,560.00 |
So DII buying has more than covered FII selling in rupee terms this week. Remember these are provisional cash-market numbers that NSE puts out in the evening; the final figures can be revised slightly.
5. Stocks in News Today: Stocks to Watch on 25 September 2026
These names are simply in the news for factual reasons — orders, deals, notices, fund-raising. This is an observation, not a suggestion to do anything with them.
| Company | Why It’s in the News |
|---|---|
| PB Fintech | Flagged that proposed insurance-regulator changes to commission arrangements could affect its general insurance revenue |
| Bharat Dynamics | Signed an ₹810.79 crore defence contract with the Ministry of Defence for supplies to the Indian Air Force |
| Dr Lal PathLabs | Board approved acquiring a 70% stake in SN Genelab for up to ₹168 crore cash, plus earn-out of up to ₹31.5 crore |
| JSW Cement | Received a show-cause notice from the Central Tax department proposing a GST demand of ₹229.85 crore plus interest |
| Inox Green Energy Services | Launched a QIP with a floor price of ₹174.36 per share, with up to 5% discount permitted |
| Sterlite Technologies | Expanded its data-centre range with pre-terminated fibre trunk assemblies from 48 to 6,912 fibres |
| Raymond | Gained about 7% on 24 September, one of the few large movers on the green side |
6. Key Events Today: Four IPOs Open, Holiday-Thin Asia and Bond Yields
The IPO window is the busiest thing on the calendar today. Four mainboard issues open for subscription, all closing on Tuesday, 29 September.
| IPO | Price Band | Issue Size |
|---|---|---|
| Orient Cables (India) | ₹258–272 | ₹552 crore |
| Runwal Enterprises | ₹290–305 | ₹500 crore |
| AceVector | ₹30–32 | ₹420 crore |
| German Green Steel and Power | ₹132–139 | ₹303.90 crore |
Also on the radar: the Moneyview IPO is in its second day of bidding after being subscribed 0.97 times on day one; Shanghai and Seoul are shut, so Asian volumes will be lighter than usual; and US bond yields at 19-year highs remain the single biggest global variable for foreign flows into India.
7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List
Quick jargon check, because these terms get thrown around a lot.
Open interest (OI) is the number of futures and options contracts that are still live — not yet squared off. Rising OI at a strike price means traders are building positions there.
PCR (put-call ratio) compares open interest in puts against calls. Below 1 generally means more call writing than put writing. It is a sentiment reading, not a signal.
Max pain is the strike price at which the largest number of option buyers would lose money at expiry. Option writers tend to have an interest in the index drifting there. It is a statistical observation, nothing more.
MWPL (market-wide position limit) is the cap NSE puts on total F&O open interest in a stock. Cross 95% of it and the stock enters the F&O ban — no fresh positions allowed, only squaring off. Cash and delivery trading continues as normal.
| Item | Latest Reading |
|---|---|
| Nifty PCR | 0.66 |
| Max pain | 23,300 |
| Highest call OI strike | 24,000 |
| Highest put OI strike | 23,000 |
| India VIX | 12.73 |
Expiry calendar: Nifty weekly and monthly contracts expire on Tuesday, and because 29 September is the last Tuesday of the month, this coming Tuesday is the monthly F&O expiry as well as the weekly one. The Sensex weekly contract expires on Thursday, so the next one is 1 October. Expiry weeks usually bring extra intraday swings.
| Stock | F&O Ban Status (latest NSE list available, 24 Sep) |
|---|---|
| Kaynes Technology India | In ban — MWPL above threshold |
| LIC Housing Finance | In ban — MWPL above threshold |
| Manappuram Finance | In ban — MWPL above threshold |
| Steel Authority of India (SAIL) | In ban — MWPL above threshold |
The ban list is refreshed by NSE every trading day before the open, so do check the exchange’s current list on your broker’s terminal before placing any F&O order.
