Stock Market Today, 14 October 2026: GIFT Nifty Flat, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues, FII DII Data and Stocks to Watch
October 14, 2026 | by NammaStockMarket
NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:20 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST
Good morning, and welcome to your daily chai-with-a-friend look at the share market today. Yesterday was a proper relief rally — Sensex jumped over 1,100 points and Nifty reclaimed 22,700, almost entirely on the back of IT stocks after TCS and HCL Tech numbers. This morning, though, the mood is quieter: GIFT Nifty today is hovering almost exactly where it closed, suggesting a flat-to-steady start for Nifty 50 and Sensex. Overnight Wall Street slipped a little, most of Asia is mildly green, and Brent crude has climbed back above $106 a barrel — which is never good news for an oil-importing country like ours.
Two numbers will decide today’s mood, and both arrive after the opening bell: India’s September wholesale inflation at noon, and the US September CPI at 6:00 PM IST. FII DII data continues to tell the same story it has told all month — foreigners selling, domestic funds absorbing. And with Dussehra falling on Tuesday next week, this week’s F&O expiry calendar has shifted around, which we explain below.
A quick note before we begin: a lot of people search for “Nifty prediction today”. We don’t make predictions. What we do instead is lay out the data, the levels analysts are tracking, and the news — and let you make your own call.
1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee
Wall Street ended Tuesday almost flat but slightly lower. Big bank earnings were a mixed bag — JPMorgan Chase missed estimates while Goldman Sachs beat them — and memory-chip stocks sold off after reports that China’s CXMT made progress on a new memory chip design. The US 10-year Treasury yield stayed high at 5.19%, which keeps pressure on emerging markets like India, because global money earns more sitting safely in US bonds.
| Index | Close (13 Oct) | Change | % Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones Industrial Average | 51,670.10 | −180.45 | −0.35% |
| S&P 500 | 7,805.45 | −1.79 | −0.02% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 27,204.38 | −41.52 | −0.15% |
Asian markets this morning are mostly positive. Japan’s Nikkei has snapped a four-session losing streak as AI and chip names recovered, and South Korea’s KOSPI has bounced after five days of falls. Hong Kong is flat and Australia is the weak spot.
| Index | Level (14 Oct, morning) | % Change |
|---|---|---|
| Nikkei 225 (Japan) | 68,150 | +0.54% |
| KOSPI (South Korea) | 6,131.02 | +1.59% |
| Taiwan Weighted | 48,934.10 | +1.23% |
| Shanghai Composite (China) | 3,803.91 | +0.08% |
| Hang Seng (Hong Kong) | 24,337.09 | −0.03% |
| ASX 200 (Australia) | 8,698 | −0.98% |
On commodities and currency, crude is the number to keep an eye on. Brent is back above $106 after Houthi militants struck Saudi Aramco’s Dhahran headquarters and attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz continued. India imports more than 85% of its crude, so every dollar up on Brent widens our import bill and pressures the rupee. The rupee itself had a good day on Tuesday, gaining 42 paise.
| Item | Latest | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Brent crude (per barrel) | $106.70 | +0.96% |
| WTI crude (per barrel) | $95.12 | +1.04% |
| Gold (spot, per ounce) | $4,187 | +0.37% |
| Rupee vs US dollar (13 Oct close) | ₹95.36 | +42 paise |
| Dollar index | 102.32 | −0.26% |
| US 10-year Treasury yield | 5.19% | −0.05 |
2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator
GIFT Nifty is the Nifty futures contract that trades at GIFT City in Gujarat. It used to be called SGX Nifty when it traded in Singapore, and many people still use the old name. Because it trades for far longer hours than our cash market, it is the first rough signal of where Nifty may open — nothing more than a signal, mind you, not a guarantee.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| GIFT Nifty level (08:04 AM IST) | 22,764.50 |
| Change | −9.00 (−0.04%) |
| Previous close | 22,773.50 |
| Day’s open | 22,737.00 |
| Day’s high / low | 22,779 / 22,736 |
| Premium over Nifty 50 close | ~43 points |
In plain words: GIFT Nifty is sitting about 43 points above Tuesday’s Nifty close of 22,721.95 and is practically unchanged on the day. That points to a flat-to-mildly-positive NSE pre market setup rather than any big gap either way.
3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close
Tuesday was the kind of session that changes the week’s tone. BSE Sensex today starts from 73,003.78 after a 1.54% jump, and Nifty 50 live trade begins from 22,721.95. The rally was narrow but powerful — Nifty IT surged 5.22% while Nifty Pharma was flat. Breadth was strong: 46 of the 50 Nifty stocks ended higher, and in the Nifty 500, 367 stocks advanced against 132 declines.
| Index | Close (13 Oct) | % Change | Week so far* |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSE Sensex | 73,003.78 | +1.54% | +0.73% |
| Nifty 50 | 22,721.95 | +1.60% | +0.89% |
| Nifty Bank | 55,481.05 | +1.03% | +0.41% |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | 59,459.20 | +1.06% | — |
| Nifty Smallcap 100 | 19,447.40 | +0.11% | — |
*Week so far is measured from the 9 October close.
| Category | Stocks |
|---|---|
| Nifty 50 top gainers | HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, Shriram Finance, Tech Mahindra |
| Nifty 50 top losers | Kotak Mahindra Bank, Eternal, Maruti Suzuki India, Max Healthcare Institute |
| Best sector | Nifty IT (+5.22%) |
| Weakest sector | Nifty Pharma (−0.01%) |
Worth remembering the bigger picture: the week of 5–9 October ended an eight-week losing streak for Nifty, reportedly the longest in about 25 years. So this is a market trying to find its feet rather than one in a comfortable uptrend.
Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today
These are the Nifty support resistance zones market analysts said they are watching. They are reference points for understanding where buying or selling has clustered — they are not forecasts, and nobody can tell you where the index will actually go.
| Level | Value | What analysts noted |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate resistance | 22,830–22,850 | Flagged by Sudeep Shah of SBI Securities as the near hurdle |
| 20-day moving average | 22,875 | Resistance zone on the daily chart |
| Decisive level | 22,800 | Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities called a move above this a reversal confirmation |
| 10-day moving average | 22,630 | Crossed on Tuesday for the first time in nearly a month |
| Immediate support | 22,550–22,580 | Cited by both SBI Securities and HDFC Securities |
| Next support | 22,300–22,500 | Lower support band analysts are tracking |
| India VIX | 14.04 (−7.94%) | The “fear gauge”; a fall means traders expect calmer days |
| Nifty Bank support | 55,200 | Former resistance analysts now treat as support |
| Nifty Bank resistance | 55,500, then 56,000 | Vatsal Bhuva of LKP Securities flagged the 56,000 zone |
A moving average is simply the average closing price over the last 10 or 20 trading days — traders watch it because it smooths out daily noise and shows the underlying drift.
4. FII DII Data Today: Tuesday, 13 October 2026 (₹ Crore)
Here is the FII DII data today, in the cash segment. FIIs are Foreign Institutional Investors — overseas funds. DIIs are Domestic Institutional Investors — our own mutual funds, insurers and pension funds, largely powered by your monthly SIPs.
| Investor | Gross Buy | Gross Sell | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| FII / FPI | 13,465.40 | 14,770.50 | −1,305.10 |
| DII | 16,233.00 | 13,793.70 | +2,439.20 |
| Period | FII Net | DII Net |
|---|---|---|
| 13 October 2026 | −1,305.10 | +2,439.20 |
| 12 October 2026 | −1,708.50 | +3,045.00 |
| This week so far (12–13 Oct) | −3,013.60 | +5,484.20 |
| Previous week (5–9 Oct) | −30,294.30 | +30,313.50 |
| October 2026 so far | −42,792 | +45,840 |
The pattern is hard to miss. FIIs have sold every single session this month, but the pace has slowed dramatically — from nearly ₹12,944 crore of selling on 8 October to just ₹1,305 crore on Tuesday. And DIIs have matched them almost rupee for rupee. That domestic cushion is a large part of why the fall has been orderly rather than violent.

6. Key Events Today: India WPI Inflation and US CPI
| Event | Time (IST) | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| India September WPI inflation | 12:00 PM | A Reuters poll expects about 10.18% year-on-year, versus 9.92% previously |
| US September CPI inflation | 6:00 PM | Consensus is around 3.7% year-on-year; release is at 8:30 AM ET |
| Q2 FY27 earnings | Through the day | BHEL, Canara Bank, ICICI Lombard, Tata Technologies, Persistent Systems and others |
For context, India’s September CPI (retail inflation) came in at 5.54% on Tuesday, with food inflation at 7.74%. WPI — the Wholesale Price Index — tracks prices at the factory gate and the wholesale market rather than at your kirana shop, so it tells you about the input-cost pressure companies are absorbing. The IMF has also raised its India FY27 growth forecast to 7%.
7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List
First, the calendar, because it is unusual this time. Nifty weekly options normally expire on a Tuesday — but Tuesday 20 October is Dussehra, an NSE trading holiday. So the Nifty weekly expiry for next week moves forward to Monday, 19 October. The Sensex weekly expiry stays on Thursday, which means tomorrow, 15 October. The monthly F&O expiry, on the last Tuesday of the month, is 27 October.
| Expiry | Date |
|---|---|
| Sensex weekly | Thursday, 15 October 2026 |
| Nifty weekly (current series) | Monday, 19 October 2026 (shifted from Dussehra) |
| Nifty monthly F&O | Tuesday, 27 October 2026 |
| Sensex monthly | Thursday, 29 October 2026 |
Now the option chain data, as of Tuesday’s close. A quick jargon break: open interest (OI) is the total number of outstanding option contracts — a crowd-size measure, not a direction signal. PCR, or put-call ratio, divides put OI by call OI; above 1 means more puts are open than calls. Max pain is the strike at which the largest number of option buyers would lose money at expiry, which is why it often acts as a magnet in theory — though in practice it moves around constantly.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Put-call ratio (PCR) | 1.38 |
| Max pain strike | 22,700 |
| Highest call OI strike | 22,750 |
| Highest put OI strike | 21,500 |
| India VIX | 14.04 |
Analysts tracking the 19 October series separately noted heavy put addition at the 22,500 strike and the largest call open interest at 23,000 — in option-chain language, the zone where sellers have gathered on each side. Again, that describes where positions sit, not where the index must go.
Finally, the F&O ban list today. A stock enters the ban when open interest across the market crosses 95% of its MWPL (Market Wide Position Limit) — the maximum F&O position the exchange allows in that stock. While banned, traders can only reduce existing positions, not create new ones. The stock still trades normally in the cash segment.
| Stock | MWPL Used |
|---|---|
| Kaynes Technology India | 95.70% |
| Ambuja Cements | 92.71% |
