Stock Market Today 30 October 2026: GIFT Nifty, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues

NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:20 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST

Good morning, and welcome to your daily cup of chai with the markets. Here is everything you need to know about the share market today before the opening bell rings at 9:15 AM.

Yesterday was a cracker of a session — Dalal Street staged a strong comeback. But overnight, Wall Street’s technology giants stumbled, and GIFT Nifty today is pointing lower. So the mood this morning is a bit more cautious than it was at yesterday’s close.

In this report we will walk through the global market cues, where Nifty 50 and Sensex closed yesterday, the latest FII DII data, the support and resistance levels analysts are tracking, the stocks in the news, and where we stand on the F&O expiry calendar.

A quick word before we begin. Many readers search for “Nifty prediction today,” hoping somebody will tell them which way the market is headed. We don’t make predictions here, and we don’t give buy or sell calls. We lay out the data, explain what it means, and leave the decisions to you — ideally with a SEBI-registered advisor by your side.

1. Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee

The big story overnight was technology. Alphabet (Google’s parent) and Intel both reported earnings that came in below what Wall Street was expecting. Technology shares were sold off, and the Nasdaq took the hardest knock.

Separately, the US Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at its meeting, with Fed Governor Kevin Warsh noting that more data was needed before moving. For Indian markets, a steady Fed usually means no fresh shock to foreign money flows — which is why our market rallied on the news yesterday.

US Markets: Thursday, 29 October 2026 Close

Index Change (%)
Dow Jones Industrial Average − 0.25%
S&P 500 − 0.35%
Nasdaq Composite − 1.38%

US Futures This Morning (Asia Session)

Futures are contracts that trade before the US market opens, giving an early read on sentiment. This morning they are deep in the red.

Contract Change (%)
Nasdaq 100 Futures − 2.33%
S&P 500 Futures − 1.05%
Dow Jones Futures − 0.29%

Asian Markets Today, 30 October 2026

Asia is following Wall Street lower, and the technology-heavy markets of Japan and South Korea are bearing the brunt of it. Korea’s fall is particularly sharp.

Index Change (%)
Nikkei 225 (Japan) − 2.92%
Kospi (South Korea) − 5.47%

Business Standard reported that Asia-Pacific markets were broadly trading lower this morning, tracking the overnight technology selloff on Wall Street.

Commodities and Currency

Item Level / Change
Brent Crude (December futures) $113.28 (+ 2.24%)
WTI Crude (pre-market reading) ~ $104.4
Gold Futures − 0.36%
Silver Futures − 1.50%
Bitcoin $77,646 (− 2.00%)
Indian Rupee (28 Oct close) ₹95.22 per US dollar

Crude oil is the number to watch. Brent is up more than 2% in the Asia session on the prospect of further US military action against Iran. India imports the bulk of its crude, so a rising oil price pushes up the import bill, pressures the rupee, and squeezes margins at oil-using companies — paint makers, tyre makers and airlines tend to feel it first.

Bitcoin slipped 2% to a two-month low of $77,646 after Binance froze about $3 billion of crypto assets following a security breach. A verified rupee close for 29 October was not available, so the table shows the last confirmed close (28 October).

2. GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator

If you are new to this, here is the simple version. GIFT Nifty is a Nifty futures contract that trades at the NSE International Exchange in GIFT City, Gujarat. It used to trade in Singapore and was called SGX Nifty, which is why many people still use the old name out of habit.

Because GIFT Nifty trades for close to 21 hours a day — including through the night when our market is shut — it absorbs all the overnight global news. So when traders in India wake up, the first thing they check is GIFT Nifty. It is the earliest available hint of where our market might open.

Item Value
GIFT Nifty level (approx. 8:11 AM IST) 22,988
Change from previous close − 60 points
Earlier reading (7:32 AM IST) 23,000 (− 42 pts, − 0.18%)
Nifty 50 spot close (29 Oct) 22,936.75

Business Standard noted that GIFT Nifty was indicating a negative open for the Nifty 50, amid the decline in global technology shares after the disappointing Wall Street earnings.

One caution: GIFT Nifty is an indicator, not a promise. Our market has opened against the GIFT Nifty signal plenty of times. Treat it as one input among many, not a forecast.

3. Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close

Thursday was a strong day for Indian equities. The bulls took charge, and the gains were broad-based rather than concentrated in a few heavyweights.

Index Close (29 Oct) Change (Pts) Change (%)
Nifty 50 22,936.75 + 237.90 + 1.05%
BSE Sensex 74,151.04 + 905.01 + 1.24%
Nifty Bank 54,909.65 + 642.25 + 1.18%
Nifty Midcap 100 — — + 0.99%
Nifty Smallcap 100 — — + 0.95%

Three things drove the rally, according to market commentary: the Fed holding rates steady, rising hopes of a cut in long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax, and buying interest in select heavyweights. The fact that midcaps and smallcaps also rose about 1% tells you the buying was not limited to large caps.

A verified closing level for Friday 23 October was not available at the time of writing, so we have not shown a week-on-week change. For context, the Nifty 50 was trading below 22,500 in early trade on Monday, 26 October, so the index has clawed back meaningful ground over the week.

Sector Performance, 29 October 2026

Sector Index Change (%)
Nifty Realty + 2.75%
Nifty FMCG + 2.34%
Nifty PSU Bank + 2.20%
Nifty Consumer Durables + 1.18%
Nifty Financial Services + 1.17%
Nifty Energy + 1.01%
Nifty IT + 0.99%
Nifty Metal + 0.67%
Nifty Pharma + 0.64%
Nifty Cement − 0.08%
Nifty Auto − 0.24%

Auto was the odd one out. With crude climbing and a few auto heavyweights slipping, the sector could not join the party.

Top Gainers and Losers, 29 October 2026

Eicher Motors 7,238.00 − 0.85%
Hindalco Industries 886.30 − 0.83%

Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today

First, the jargon, explained simply. Support is a price zone where buyers have historically stepped in, so the fall tends to slow down there. Resistance is a zone where sellers have historically shown up, so rallies tend to stall there. These are not magic numbers and they are certainly not forecasts — they are simply levels that a lot of market participants are watching, which is part of why they sometimes matter.

The levels below are published observations from research desks. They are shown for reference, not as forecasts, and nothing here is a recommendation to trade at any level.

Index / Source Support Being Watched Resistance Being Watched
Nifty 50 (Liquide) 22,800 23,000
Nifty 50 (HDFC Sky Prime Research) 22,800 – 22,750 23,200
Nifty 50 (Bajaj Broking, from 28 Oct session) 22,500 / 22,570 / 22,450 22,810 / 22,900
Nifty Bank (Liquide) 54,600 55,300

India VIX

Item Value
India VIX (28 Oct close) 16.25
Reported move on 29 Oct − 7.02%

India VIX is often called the “fear gauge.” It measures how much volatility option traders expect over the next 30 days. When VIX falls, it means traders are relaxed; when it spikes, it means they are bracing for sharp swings. VIX fell sharply during Thursday’s rally, which fits the calmer mood. An exact closing level for 29 October was not available at the time of writing.

4. FII DII Data Today: Thursday, 29 October 2026 (₹ Crore)

FIIs are Foreign Institutional Investors — overseas funds investing in Indian stocks. DIIs are Domestic Institutional Investors — our own mutual funds, insurance companies and pension funds. Watching whether each group is buying or selling in the cash market tells you who is driving the tape.

Category Net (₹ Crore) Stance
FII / FPI (29 Oct) − 943.60 Net sellers
DII (29 Oct) + 1,924.41 Net buyers
FII / FPI (28 Oct) + 871.83 Net buyers
DII (28 Oct) + 643.35 Net buyers

Here is the interesting bit. The market rose over 1% on Thursday even though foreign investors were net sellers of roughly ₹944 crore in the cash segment. Domestic institutions more than made up the difference, buying about ₹1,924 crore. That is the pattern we have seen on and off through this year: steady domestic SIP and insurance money cushioning the market when foreign flows wobble.

Gross buy and sell break-ups were not available at the time of writing, so only net figures are shown. Provisional day-of numbers are sometimes revised, and cash-market flows do not capture FII activity in derivatives. A weekly total for 26–29 October could not be computed, as figures for 26 and 27 October were unavailable.

To be clear about what this section is and is not: these are stocks that are in the news for a specific, factual reason — an earnings release, an order win, a block deal, a management change. It is an observation, not a recommendation. We are not suggesting you buy or sell any of them.

6. Key Events Today: Reliance Q2 Results, Twenty Earnings Releases and Four IPO Openings

Today is one of the busiest earnings days of this results season. Twenty companies are scheduled to report September-quarter (Q2 FY27) numbers.

Category Details
Q2 FY27 results today Aditya Birla Capital, Affle 3i, Ajanta Pharma, Bank of Baroda, Bharat Electronics, Delhivery, Dixon Technologies, GAIL, GMDC, Indraprastha Gas, Indian Oil, LIC Housing Finance, Max Healthcare, NTPC Green, PB Fintech, Reliance Industries, SJVN, Sun Pharma, Varun Beverages, Zee Entertainment

Global watch Fallout from the Alphabet and Intel earnings misses; crude oil and West Asia developments

Reliance Industries matters simply because of its weight — it is among the heaviest stocks in both the Nifty 50 and the Sensex, so its results can move the index on their own. Results typically land after market hours, so the reaction usually shows up the next trading day.

7. F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and F&O Ban List

When is the next expiry?

F&O stands for futures and options — contracts that derive their value from an underlying stock or index, and that must be settled on a fixed expiry date.

Contract Expiry Schedule Next Date
Nifty weekly options Every Tuesday Tuesday, 3 November 2026
Sensex weekly options Every Thursday Thursday, 5 November 2026
Monthly F&O (October series) Last Tuesday of the month Already settled, 27 October 2026

So there is no expiry today. The October monthly series has already rolled over, and the next Nifty weekly expiry is on Tuesday. Expiry days tend to bring extra volatility in the last hour as traders close or roll positions, so a non-expiry Friday is usually a calmer affair on that front.

Open interest, PCR and max pain, explained

Three terms that get thrown around a lot in F&O chatter:

Open Interest (OI) is the total number of derivative contracts that are currently open — in other words, how much money is actually parked in that strike. A high call OI at a strike means a lot of traders have positions there, and that strike often behaves like a speed bump on the way up. A high put OI at a strike often acts as a cushion on the way down.

PCR (Put-Call Ratio) divides total put open interest by total call open interest. A PCR above 1 means more puts are open than calls; below 1 means the opposite. Traders use it as a rough sentiment read, though it is a blunt instrument and can mislead at extremes.

Max pain is the strike price at which the largest number of option buyers would lose money if the index settled exactly there on expiry. It is a theoretical magnet level, not a target, and it shifts every day as positions change.

Nifty option chain snapshot

The most recent option chain data available at the time of writing was from the 28 October close, so please read it as slightly dated — the 29 October rally will have shifted these numbers.

Metric Value (as of 28 Oct close)
Put-Call Ratio (PCR) 1.0529
Change-in-OI PCR 1.1366
Max pain strike 22,700
Heavier Call OI strike 23,500
Heavier Put OI strike 22,000
Option-implied range 22,412 – 22,986

A PCR a touch above 1 points to a fairly balanced book rather than a one-sided bet. Worth noting: yesterday’s Nifty close of 22,936.75 sits near the top of that implied range.

F&O ban list today

Here is what the ban actually means, because the name confuses people. The NSE sets a Market Wide Position Limit (MWPL) for every stock in the F&O segment — a ceiling on how many derivative contracts can be open in that stock across the whole market. When open interest crosses 95% of the MWPL, the stock goes into the “ban period.”

In that period you cannot open fresh derivative positions in that stock, though you can still square off or reduce existing ones. The stock trades perfectly normally in the cash segment, so delivery and intraday cash trading are unaffected. The stock exits the ban once open interest drops back below 80%.

Stock Status
Kaynes Technology India Ltd In F&O ban (per the 29 October list)
Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) In F&O ban (per the 29 October list)

The NSE updates this list daily. At the time of writing, the list published on our sources was still the 29 October one, so please check the NSE website or your broker’s terminal for the confirmed 30 October list before the open.

Which stocks are in the F&O ban list today?

The most recent published list, for 29 October 2026, had two stocks: Kaynes Technology India and Steel Authority of India (SAIL). The 30 October list had not appeared on our sources at the time of writing, so do check the NSE website or your broker’s platform before the open. Remember that an F&O ban only blocks fresh derivative positions — cash-market trading in those stocks continues normally.

Why did Asian markets fall so sharply today?

Asian markets dropped after Alphabet and Intel reported quarterly earnings below Wall Street’s expectations, triggering a selloff in technology shares. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 2.92% and South Korea’s Kospi dropped 5.47% — both markets carry heavy weightings in technology and semiconductor stocks, which is why they were hit hardest. Overnight in the US, the Nasdaq Composite had already ended 1.38% lower.
