Nifty Sensex Next Week: 12 Must-Check Things After 6 Falls (21-25 Sep)
September 20, 2026 | by NammaStockMarket
Last week was not kind to the Indian share market. The NSE Nifty 50 ended at 23,346.40 points, down 51.70 points (0.22%) for the week. The BSE Sensex closed at 74,294.96 points, down 486.80 points (0.65%). That is the sixth weekly fall in a row for both, as per Upstox and Liquide’s weekly wraps. Still, Friday was better, with smallcaps up 1.7%.
So what should you check before the bell rings on Monday, 21 September? If you are wondering about the Nifty Sensex next week picture, here are 12 simple points for 21 to 25 September. Let’s go one by one.

1. Last week’s closing levels on NSE and BSE
Start with the base. Know where the NSE Nifty 50 (the index of 50 big companies on NSE) and the BSE Sensex (30 big companies on BSE) closed, so you can see how far they move on Monday.
| Index | Close (points) | Weekly change |
|---|---|---|
| NSE Nifty 50 | 23,346.40 | -51.70 (-0.22%) |
| BSE Sensex | 74,294.96 | -486.80 (-0.65%) |
| NSE Bank Nifty | 56,358.70 | -247.85 (-0.44%) |
Simple point: Nifty Midcap 100 ended the week flat and Nifty Smallcap 100 slipped 0.2%, so the broader market held up better than the Sensex.
2. GIFT Nifty and global cues for Nifty Sensex next week
GIFT Nifty (the Nifty futures traded at GIFT City, our pre-market signal) shows how Monday may start. Check it around 8:30 AM IST. Global cues matter too. The US Fed raised rates by 25 basis points to 3.75-4%, and the Bank of Japan also hiked by 25 basis points. The US 10-year bond yield touched 5.03%, the highest since 2007. Higher US yields can pull money out of India, which is why we watch them.
3. Nifty 50 support and resistance levels
Support is a level where a fall has stopped before; resistance is where a rise has stopped. Analysts at 5paisa point to 23,100-23,200 as support and 23,615 as resistance for the Nifty 50. Anand Rathi mentions 23,000-23,100 as support and 23,700 as resistance. Notice that they roughly agree. These are just reference zones, not a promise of what will happen.
4. India VIX: how nervous is the market?
India VIX is the “fear gauge”. A higher number means traders expect bigger swings. It fell 7.4% on Friday to about 11.39 and was down 7.3% for the week. That is a calm reading. Keep an eye on this: a sudden jump on Monday would tell you the mood has changed.
5. FII and DII flows in ₹ crore
FII/FPI means foreign investors and DII means Indian institutions like mutual funds and insurers. FPIs pulled out ₹20,974 crore from Indian equities in September so far, as per Business Standard and Angel One. On Friday alone, FIIs sold about ₹3,208.76 crore net. DIIs have been buying steadily and cushioning the fall. Check the NSE FII DII data after 6 PM each day.
6. Rupee vs US dollar
The rupee closed at about ₹95.88 to ₹95.89 per US dollar on Friday, and was down 0.3% for the week, as per Business Recorder and PTI. Traders say the RBI is defending the 96 mark. A weak rupee makes imports costlier and can worry foreign investors.
7. Crude oil and its impact on India
India imports most of its oil. Brent crude touched a high of US$108.75 per barrel last week and settled near US$103.87 on Friday after Saudi Arabia offered extra supply through Oman. Costly crude means a higher import bill, more inflation and a weaker rupee. So a fall in crude is usually good news for India, and a spike is a worry, especially for oil marketing companies, paint and airline stocks.
8. F&O expiry dates, open interest and PCR
F&O means futures and options, the derivatives segment. Here are the dates for this week and the next:
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Tue, 22 Sep | NSE Nifty weekly options expiry |
| Thu, 24 Sep | BSE Sensex weekly and monthly options expiry |
| Tue, 29 Sep | NSE Nifty monthly expiry (next week) |
Before expiry, look at open interest (OI, the number of contracts still open) and PCR (put-call ratio, which compares put and call contracts). Big OI at a strike price often shows where traders expect the index to stop. Also check the F&O ban list on NSE; stocks in it cannot take fresh positions. Options are risky, and lot size rules apply, so please be careful.
9. NSE IPO: closing, allotment and listing
The big story is the NSE IPO itself, an offer for sale of about ₹22,569 crore at a price band of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 per share. The lot size is 8 shares, so about ₹14,280 at the upper band, as per Business Standard. Bidding closes on Monday 21 September. Allotment is expected on 22 September, shares go to demat accounts on 23 September, and listing is on 24 September. IPO GMP (grey market premium) is unofficial, so do not treat it as a sure sign.
10. Other IPOs next week on NSE and BSE
Several mainboard IPOs open this week, as per Goodreturns and Business Standard:
| IPO | Dates | Price band (₹) | Lot size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varmora Granito | 22-24 Sep | ₹140-148 | 101 shares |
| Elevate Campuses | 23-25 Sep | ₹343-362 | 41 shares |
| ArMee Infotech | 23-25 Sep | ₹350-375 | 40 shares |
| Swastika Infra | 23-25 Sep | ₹175-185 | 81 shares |
| Adroit Industries (India) | 23-25 Sep | ₹126-134 | 111 shares |
| A-One Steels | 24-28 Sep | ₹385-405 | 37 shares |
Read the RHP (the offer document) on the NSE India or BSE India site before you apply.
11. Big news: Tata Sons, TCS, UPI and growth forecast
Tata Sons reappointed N Chandrasekaran for a third term amid some controversy, and TCS fell nearly 4% on Friday, which dragged the Sensex. Read our Friday market wrap for details. The government also announced a revised UPI charge framework (0.4%, capped at ₹300), and Moody’s raised India’s FY27 GDP growth forecast to 7%. For inflation and growth basics, see our explainers on India’s CPI and PMI. Also see how crude hit the market earlier in this crude oil report.
12. Holidays, SIP reminder and demat account safety
Good news: no NSE or BSE holiday next week, so trading runs all five days from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST. The next holiday reported is 2 October. If you run a mutual fund SIP (a fixed monthly investment), keep it going; a falling market is where SIPs collect more units for the same money. Also, never share your demat account or trading account OTP or password with anyone, and check your IPO application in your UPI app.
