Stock Market Today, 6 November 2026: GIFT Nifty, Sensex and Nifty Pre-Market Cues, FII DII Data and Stocks to Watch
November 6, 2026 | by NammaStockMarket
NSE pre-market report · Data as of 8:25 AM IST · NSE and BSE open at 9:15 AM IST
Good morning, and happy Dhanteras. If you went to bed on Thursday feeling great about the share market today, the overnight news is a bit of a cold shower. Our market had a blockbuster Thursday — six sessions of gains in a row, the best single day in more than a year. Then Wall Street fell apart. The Nasdaq dropped 5.5%, AI and chip stocks were hammered, and Asia has opened deep in the red this morning, with Korea’s market hitting a circuit breaker.
So GIFT Nifty today is pointing to a gap-down start, and the question on everyone’s mind is how much of Thursday’s party the Nifty 50 and Sensex give back. The good news for the bulls: FII DII data shows foreign investors bought over ₹14,900 crore of Indian shares on Thursday, their biggest single-day buy of the month. And there’s a twist in the calendar this week — the F&O expiry has moved to Monday because Tuesday is a Diwali holiday, with a special Muhurat trading session on Sunday in between.
Let’s walk through the numbers, chai in hand.
Global Market Cues Today: US Markets, Asian Markets, Crude Oil and Rupee
Thursday was ugly on Wall Street. The selling started in AI chip stocks and spread everywhere. The trigger, as reported: worries that the data-centre building boom will slow down, with borrowing still expensive and the new US Congress — Democrats won both chambers in the midterms — seen as less friendly to big data-centre projects.
| Index | Close | Change | % Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dow Jones Industrial Average | 51,523.06 | − 1,833.06 | − 3.44% |
| S&P 500 | 7,353.73 | − 334.89 | − 4.36% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 24,315.00 | − 1,421.52 | − 5.52% |
The S&P 500’s fall was its worst session since April 2025, and the Nasdaq ended in correction territory — market-speak for more than 10% below its recent record high. Chip names took the brunt: Micron − 17.46%, AMD − 17.26%, Marvell − 16.43%, Arm − 13.08%, Broadcom − 10.43%, Intel − 10.33%, Qualcomm − 9.49% and Nvidia − 9.26%. Taiwan Semiconductor’s US listing fell 10.78%. The semiconductor ETF had its worst day since March 2020. The Wall Street fear gauge, the VIX, briefly touched 28.09, its highest since 31 March.
Asia picked up the baton this morning.
| Market | Level | Change | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Japan Nikkei 225 | 57,271.19 | − 6.2% | Fell as much as 8% intraday |
| South Korea Kospi | 5,000.25 | − 7.1% | Circuit breaker triggered |
| Australia S&P/ASX 200 | 9,003.40 | − 0.7% | Mining-heavy, held up better |
These are morning-session figures and they moved fast — a later Business Standard reading had the Nikkei down as much as 8% and the Kospi down 8.8%, the fall that tripped Korea’s circuit breaker (an automatic trading pause used when an index drops too sharply). Hang Seng and Shanghai figures were not available at the time of writing. One small comfort: US futures were trying to bounce in Asian hours, with Nasdaq 100 futures up about 1.4%.
Now commodities and the rupee — and here crude is the worry.
| Item | Level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Brent crude (Jan futures) | $ 99.01 | + 4.64% |
| WTI crude | $ 91.06 | + 0.60% |
| Gold (spot) | $ 4,088.06 | − 0.64% |
| Silver | $ 51.99 | − 0.74% |
| US 10-year Treasury yield | 4.84% | from 4.90% |
| USD / Japanese yen | 157.83 | from 157.65 |
| Indian rupee (5 Nov, intraday) | ₹ 94.52 | from ₹ 94.64 |
Brent is back near the $100 mark after reports of fresh attacks on tankers in West Asia. That matters for India more than most — we import the bulk of our crude, so costlier oil feeds into inflation, the rupee and the profits of oil-using companies. Just two days ago Brent had slipped below $95 and the rupee hit a two-week high at ₹94.35 to the dollar; that tailwind has now reversed. Gold and silver futures were both softer this morning, down about 0.93% and 1% respectively — worth a glance if you are buying on Dhanteras.
GIFT Nifty Today (SGX Nifty): The First Pre-Market Indicator
GIFT Nifty is the Nifty futures contract that trades at the NSE International Exchange in GIFT City, Gandhinagar. Many people still call it SGX Nifty, its old name from when it traded in Singapore. Because it trades for far longer hours than our cash market, it is the first clue to how the Nifty may open at 9:15 AM.
| Reading | Level | Change | Time (IST) |
|---|---|---|---|
| GIFT Nifty (latest) | 24,424.50 | − 160 pts | 8:11 AM, 6 Nov |
| GIFT Nifty (earlier) | 24,465.00 | − 123 pts (− 0.50%) | 7:45 AM, 6 Nov |
| Nifty November futures (NSE close) | 24,588.00 | — | 4:45 PM, 5 Nov |
| Nifty 50 spot (previous close) | 24,536.60 | — | 5 Nov close |
GIFT Nifty is trading roughly 160 points below where Nifty futures closed on Thursday, which is why every pre-market story this morning is using the words “gap-down open”. A gap-down simply means the index starts the day below the previous close, instead of opening near it.
Two honest caveats. First, GIFT Nifty is an indicator, not a promise — the actual open is set by the NSE pre-open session between 9:00 and 9:15 AM. Second, the number keeps moving right up to the open, as you can see from the two readings above being 40 points apart within half an hour.
Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex Today: Previous Close
Thursday was a big one. Both benchmarks logged their strongest single-day gain in over a year and stretched their winning run to six sessions.
| Index | Close (5 Nov) | Change | % Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 24,536.60 | + 576.00 | + 2.40% |
| BSE Sensex | 79,310.01 | + 2,008.61 | + 2.60% |
| Nifty Bank | Not published | ~ + 3.0% | approx. |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | Not published | + 1.87% | — |
| Nifty Smallcap 100 | Not published | + 0.56% | — |
| India VIX | 15.58 | + 2.58% | — |
Across the six-session run, both indices have added more than 8% — their longest winning streak in a year. Zoom out, though, and 2026 has still been a tough year: the Nifty is down about 6.2% and the Sensex about 6.9% year to date. Thursday’s close put the benchmarks near three-month highs. A week-on-week figure was not published in the sources we checked, so we have left it out rather than guess.
Market breadth on the BSE was strongly positive: 2,868 shares advanced, 1,384 declined and 169 were unchanged. Breadth just counts how many stocks went up versus down — it tells you whether a rally is broad or driven by a handful of heavyweights. This one was broad.
| Category | Names |
|---|---|
| Top gainers | Bajaj Finance + 7.65%, Shriram Finance + 6.08%, M&M + 5.59%, Maruti Suzuki + 5.48%, Tata Motors PV + 5.46% |
| Top losers | Apollo Hospitals − 2.66%, ONGC − 2.13%, NTPC − 1.63%, Coal India − 1.34%, Adani Ports − 1.33% |
| Leading sectors | Nifty Capital Market + 4.24%, Nifty Auto + 4.14%, Nifty Financial Services + 3.99%, Nifty Realty + 3.52% |
| Lagging sectors | Nifty Media − 0.8%, Nifty Energy − 0.3% |
Autos and financials did the heavy lifting — 14 of 16 major sectoral indices finished higher.
Nifty Support and Resistance Levels for Today
A quick word on what these are. Support is a level where buying has tended to show up; resistance is where selling has tended to appear. They are reference points drawn from past price action and options positioning — not forecasts, and not a signal to do anything. We don’t make a “Nifty prediction today”; we just lay out the data and let you read it.
| Level | Value | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Previous close | 24,536.60 | Nifty 50 close, 5 Nov |
| Round-number mark above | 25,000 | Highest Call open interest strike |
| Options max pain | 24,200 | 9 Nov expiry, latest session |
| Round-number mark below | 24,000 | Psychological level, widely tracked |
| Round-number mark below | 23,000 | Highest Put open interest strike |
| India VIX | 15.58 | + 2.58% on 5 Nov |
India VIX is the volatility index — it measures how much movement the options market expects over the next 30 days. At 15.58 it is still fairly calm by historical standards, but it ticked up on Thursday, and after an overnight global sell-off it is the one number worth watching through the day. Higher VIX generally means wider swings and bigger gaps.
Note that the open interest strikes above come from a 4 November data snapshot, the most recent one available to us this morning, while max pain and PCR are from the latest session. Options data shifts quickly once trading starts, so treat these as a starting map rather than today’s live picture.
FII DII Data Today: Thursday, 5 November 2026 (₹ Crore)
FII DII data today is the single most-watched flow number in our market. FIIs are Foreign Institutional Investors — overseas funds. DIIs are Domestic Institutional Investors — our own mutual funds, insurers and pension funds. These are provisional cash-market figures published by the exchanges after the close.
| Category | Gross Buy | Gross Sell | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| FII / FPI | 31,797.86 | 16,823.18 | + 14,974.68 |
| DII | 22,168.28 | 32,612.82 | − 10,444.54 |
| Net institutional flow | — | — | + 4,530.14 |
That FII number is the standout: ₹14,975 crore of net buying in a single day, comfortably the largest of November so far. DIIs were on the other side, selling ₹10,445 crore — which often happens when domestic funds book profits into a sharp rally while foreign money chases it.
| Date | FII Net | DII Net |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Nov 2026 | + 14,974.68 | − 10,444.54 |
| 4 Nov 2026 | + 7,284.03 | − 3,712.23 |
| 3 Nov 2026 | + 6,836.81 | − 3,678.85 |
| 2 Nov 2026 | + 3,114.68 | − 392.20 |
| November so far | + 32,210.20 | − 18,227.70 |
Four straight sessions of FII buying, getting bigger each day. For context, FIIs were net sellers of about ₹45,162 crore in October, so this is a sharp turn. One reason being discussed: a weaker dollar after the US midterms tends to pull foreign money back toward emerging markets like India. Today’s reading, after the global sell-off, will be the real test of whether that turn sticks.

Stocks going ex-dividend today include NTPC, Power Grid, National Aluminium, Laurus Labs, Petronet LNG, Info Edge, MOIL, Quess Corp, Sundram Fasteners, Happiest Minds, Gabriel India, Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, CARE Ratings and Kaveri Seed. Ex-dividend means today is the first day the share trades without the right to that dividend, so the price typically adjusts down by roughly the dividend amount — it is not a “fall” in any meaningful sense. Knowledge Marine & Engineering has its ex-date for a stock split.
Key Events Today: Q2 Earnings Rush, Dhanteras and a Rejigged Expiry Week
It’s a heavy earnings day — roughly three dozen companies report September-quarter numbers. The bigger names on the list: Hindalco Industries, Siemens, Bosch, Voltas, Jubilant FoodWorks, Honasa Consumer, Gland Pharma, Coromandel International, Blue Dart Express, Nuvama Wealth Management, Aster DM Quality Care, 3M India, Godrej Agrovet, Star Cement, TTK Prestige, Ratnamani Metals & Tubes, Data Patterns, Azad Engineering, Rain Industries and Repco Home Finance.
Beyond earnings, the week ahead is unusual:
- Today, Friday 6 November — Dhanteras. Normal trading session.
- Sunday 8 November — Diwali Muhurat trading, the traditional one-hour ceremonial session. Both NSE and BSE will hold it from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM IST, with a pre-open from 2:05 PM. Trades are real and settle normally.
- Monday 9 November — Nifty weekly F&O expiry, pulled forward from Tuesday.
- Tuesday 10 November — Market holiday for Diwali-Balipratipada. Equity, F&O and currency segments all closed.
- Thursday 12 November — Sensex weekly expiry.
Also on the radar: crude oil, after Brent’s jump back toward $100 on West Asia tanker reports, and the rupee, which had been strengthening before oil turned.
F&O Today: Nifty Expiry, Open Interest and the F&O Ban List
Let’s decode the jargon first, then the numbers.
Open interest (OI) is the total number of futures and options contracts still open — not yet closed or settled. Rising OI with rising price suggests fresh buying; rising OI with falling price suggests fresh selling. PCR, the Put-Call Ratio, divides put open interest by call open interest. Above 1 means more puts than calls are open, which is usually read as cautious-to-positive positioning; below 1, the reverse. Max pain is the strike price at which the largest number of option buyers would lose money at expiry — which is also where option writers would gain most. It tends to act like a magnet near expiry, though it moves as positions change.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Nifty weekly expiry | Monday, 9 November 2026 (moved from Tuesday 10 Nov, a holiday) |
| Nifty monthly expiry | Monday, 23 November 2026 (moved from Tuesday 24 Nov, a holiday) |
| Sensex weekly expiry | Thursday, 12 November 2026 |
| Put-Call Ratio (OI) | 1.12 (9 Nov expiry, latest session) |
| Max pain | 24,200 (9 Nov expiry) |
| Highest Call OI strike | 25,000 (4 Nov snapshot) |
| Highest Put OI strike | 23,000 (4 Nov snapshot) |
| Nifty lot size | 65 |
Here’s the calendar quirk worth knowing. Nifty weekly options normally expire every Tuesday, and the monthly contract on the last Tuesday of the month. When that Tuesday is a holiday, the expiry moves to the previous trading day. November 2026 has two such clashes — Diwali-Balipratipada on 10 November and Guru Nanak Jayanti on 24 November — so both this week’s weekly expiry and the November monthly expiry land on a Monday. If you trade options, mark 9 and 23 November.
F&O ban list today — just one stock:
| Stock | Status | Current MWPL |
|---|---|---|
| Kaynes Technology (KAYNES) | In ban | 85.51% |
MWPL is the Market Wide Position Limit — a cap on how many derivative contracts can be open in a single stock across the whole market. Cross 95% of it and the stock enters the ban: no new positions allowed, you can only reduce existing ones. It exits the ban once open interest falls back below 80%. Kaynes has been in ban for seven sessions. Nearest to entering is Bandhan Bank at 87.40% of its limit. The ban list is published by NSE each evening for the next day, and this one comes from the 5 November 6:31 PM file.
Being in the F&O ban is a position-limit matter, not a verdict on the company.

The Nifty 50 closed at 24,536.60, up 576 points or 2.40%. The BSE Sensex closed at 79,310.01, up 2,008.61 points or 2.60%. It was the sixth straight session of gains for both, and their biggest single-day rise in more than a year.

These are reference points from past price action and options data, not forecasts.
What is the FII DII data for 5 November 2026?
FIIs were net buyers of ₹14,974.68 crore in the cash market (bought ₹31,797.86 crore, sold ₹16,823.18 crore). Which stocks are in the F&O ban list today?

Is the stock market open on Diwali this year, and when is Muhurat trading?
The market is closed on Tuesday 10 November for Diwali-Balipratipada. Before that, NSE and BSE will hold the traditional Diwali Muhurat trading session on Sunday 8 November from 2:20 PM to 3:30 PM IST, with a pre-open session from 2:05 PM. It is a normal settlement session despite being a Sunday — trades are real and go through as usual.
Why did global markets fall overnight?
A sell-off in artificial intelligence and semiconductor shares on Wall Street, which began on Wednesday and deepened on Thursday. The reported trigger was concern that data-centre construction will slow — borrowing costs remain high, and the US midterm results were read as less supportive of large data-centre projects. The Nasdaq fell 5.52% into correction territory, and the semiconductor ETF had its worst day since March 2020. Asian markets followed, with Korea’s Kospi falling enough to trigger a circuit breaker.
